We are a PINES library, so you are able to get items from not only our library, but from others around the state of Georgia.
The headquarters library in Dalton, GA houses over 116,000 items with easy access through intralibrary loan to the collections at the branches. The NGRL collection consists of approximately 272,000 items.
Adult Fiction
The entire fiction collection is on one floor, separated into a new books area, large print bookshelf and general collection, all located to the right of the elevator as you enter. New books stay on the new book shelves for approximately 6 months then are moved into the general collection. Loan period is 2 weeks, the same as general fiction.
Adult Non-fiction
The non-fiction collection consists of a print reference collection (used only within the library) and general collection (which may be checked out). New books stay on the new book shelves for approximately 6 months then are moved into the general collection. The books are organized by the Dewey Decimal system which allows for easier browsing of topics. New additions to the collection are listed on the NEW BOOKS link.
Local history/Genealogy
This collection is located in the Georgia Room, a glassed-in area in the back of the library. There are books on topics such as county histories, local celebrities, the Official Records of the Civil War, Civil War regiments and cemetery and marriage records. This is a non-circulating collection.
Español
Spanish materials, fiction and non-fiction, are shelved in the Adult section. Children's books in Spanish are also located here.
Periodicals
Newspapers are located in the quiet room to the right of the circulation desk. Click here to view a list of available titles and back issues.
Video cassettes and DVDs
In the video cassette collection there are tapes on travel and instruction, exercise & self-help, movie classics, PBS series and children's shows. Videos may be checked out for 7 days.
Audio cassettes
Located along the wall to the right of the circulation desk, the audio cassette collection consists of adult fiction and non-fiction, including current bestsellers. Loan period is 2 weeks, with a maximum of 4 audio cassettes check out at one time.
CD music
A variety of CDs are available.
Microfiche/Microfilm
The microfilm collection consists of nearly (items) and is housed in file cabinets in the circulation staff room. Here you'll find census of Georgia counties and local newspapers. Microfilm readers are located by the Georgia Room and the staff circulation room. This is not a circulating collection.
Geared toward ages 12-18, this collection houses excellent reference & non-fiction materials for reports; and fiction, including a number of popular series. It is located on two ranges across from the circulation desk.
The children's department is to the left as you enter the library. The collection consists of easy readers, beginning readers, and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. Children's videos are in the video collection by the circulation desk.
